TOPIC: What's a good female monologe for Midsummer audition?

What's a good female monologe for Midsummer audition? 8 months 1 week ago #6897

I've auditioned for this company several times and now i'm auditioning for their production of Midsummer Night's Dream. That's why I'm going a little crazy right now. There's different schools of thought in using a monologue from the play you're auditioning for also.

I thought about doing the "all the world's a stage" monologue but it's done by a male character. And there's so many monologues that are over done.

Any advice?

What are you thoughts on reciting one of the sonnets?

Generally speaking, sonnets are a no-no for auditions. They don't represent an actual character.

There are quite a few options here:

Which one you chose might depend on the role you're going for. Maybe the Princess in LLL or something from Winter's Tale.

I dream (no pun intended) of playing Titania. Helena or Hermia would be cool too. I've played Cobweb.

I'm thinking of doing Portia's monologue that begins with "Away then, I am locked in one of them". I know Merchant of Venice really well so memorizing it won't take as long and there's some really beautiful imagery in this speech. She also talks about music which may be good given that this production will have a focus on music and they asked people to bring instruments. (I'm gonna bring my tin whistle). Maybe my guitar too.

Possibly Adrianna from Errors, as a strong female character from a comedy written at about the same time. If you want to go all out for Titania, then maybe Katharine from Henry VIII.

Definitely do a verse monologue though.

Update, a little late

I didn't get cast. :(

I was pretty bummed out because I've been auditioning for this company for a few years but that's the nature of the beast.

You'll get used to it. It's part of life when you're an actor. :)

You'll get the next one. :)
