I didn’t hesitate to complain about U.S. Copyright Office delay in processing applications to register copyrights for two of my “presentations,” so I must be as quick to express gratitude to two CO people who, in addition to their regular duties, located the works and saw them to completion.

The Office reportedly receives about 2,000 new items each weekday, and last year registered well over 500,000 claims to copyright. But these are days of enforced government austerity: since Fiscal 2010 the Copyright Office budget has been cut by 8.4 percent, 44 employees have taken early retirement, and remaining staff — 18 percent below the authorized level — is contending with the inherited backlogs.

I am grateful indeed for the unusual effort in my behalf, but it would be a poor kind of “thanks” to make my benefactors’ e-mail inboxes subject to a potential flood of similar pleas.
:cheer:
Instead, here’s a heartfelt salute!
