aafirst line seems to be missing

That's not in the FF nor in any Quarto I've seen. No idea where that could be from.

The line is from my copy of 'The Complete Oxford Shakespeare'
Guild Publishing London.

I am totally bemused by it all.

I try the First Folio, and find that Scene 1 is printed as scene 2!

Then I find that an earlier Quarto (the same edition as this forum uses)
has a different beginning than mine.

I would have thought that the First Folio, being a true copy and all that stuff,
would be THE reference in these matters.

Has anyone done any research into the F Folio 'errors' I wonder?

Yes, it appears the FF editors considered the Induction as "Scene 1". It's a good idea to take scene numbers with a grain of salt, For example, Shrew starts with Act 1, Scene 1, but doesn't have anything until suddenly it's Act Three. Then again nothing until suddenly it's Act 5.

Thought I was going a bit denser than usual.

I like to use the first Folio whenever I can, but I have not got around to making
a paper version. I must admit, I saw what seemed to be a modern version
of the First Folio in a bookshop a couple of years ago. I did noy get to look
inside it, on account of plastic wrapping.
