Hi folks,
I wonder if anyone has any thoughts on this:
How popular is Macbeth as a tragedy? If all the (37 ?) plays are compared for popularity, where would Macbeth come?
Also, if that play is popular, I wonder which other comes the closest to Macbeth.

In other words, which do you think are the two most popular Shakespeare plays?

hope this reads ok

regards

I would say Macbeth would have to be my most favourite shakespeare play as it has so many themes. A theme would be how ambition can lead to the unfolding of man's flaws in his character. It is also a characture of how women, in particular Lady Macbeth, will stop at nothing to ensure the best outcomes for themselves and their husbands, even if that means its necessary to kill not only the King of Scotland but many more subjects. In a way, I agree completly to how this play is a tragedy... with the revealing of mans character flaws.

The second best play by shakespeare would be Romeo and Juliet. Although it can be labelled as another tragedy I feel it is totally different to Macbeth. Macbeth is a comical tragedy while Romeo and Jukliet is a romantic tragedy.

well that's what I thought :D
