throughout the play, iago makes many animal references to describe othello's sexual relationship with desdemona, such as "a black ram is tupping a white ewe" (1.1), as well as animal references to describe cassio's alleged sexual relationship with desdemona. why does he make animal references, of all things to reference? does it have to do with sex being thought of as an animalistic activity?
