1. Describe the on-going relationship between Iago and Roderigo. What does each stand to gain from their relationship? Roderigo seeks to gain Desdemona and Iago seeks to gain ?
2. Who is Barbantio and why does Iago try to turn him against Othello? Brabantio is Desdemona's father. Iago tries to turn him against Othello because if he [Brabantio] brings his case to the Duke, Othello will be demoted.
3. Who is Cassio and what is it about him that Iago hates so? Cassio is Othello's lieutenant. Iago hates that Othello chose Cassio over him for the lieutenancy.
4. Describe the handkerchief and how it is used as a symbol in the play. Who all has it, and what is inferred by its coming into certain hands? Emilia steals the handkerchief from Desdemona and gives it to Iago to be placed in Cassio's lodging. It is all part of Iago's plan to get revenge on Othello.
