Hello all. After much debate with my advisor I have decided to write my thesis on Shakespeare and exploring the idea of marriage of true minds through transgression, and the idea of companionate marriage, in Shakespeare's plays.

I intend to use Much Ado, Othello (in depicting the loss of that marriage), twelfth night/as you like it.

I cannot use romeo and juliet or antony and cleopatra (which I really wanted to) because we have covered that in class and I cannot focus on them.

So I am looking for other recommendations where I can look at this theme. Any play come to mind? It could be a negative example like how in alls well the transgression of helena fails because it is one form of arranged marriage where one of the parties' (interestingly male one) is forced into that marriage.

I need some recommendations rather than blindly reading all of the plays.

Oh and do you think my thesis topic is workable or interesting? I have my doubts but my advisor told me to stick with it as it would be fun to work on.

I think there are lots of good options for this topic:

Macbeth & Lady Macbeth- Possibly the worst transgression, murder, and committed by a husband and wife team.

Richard 3 and Lady Anne- Could be an interesting slant on their story.

Angelo & Mariana-Angelo's transgressions have actually led to his marriage to save himself from execution.

Henry 8 had a few marriages. :)
