Very often, debates on issues arise that are important, yet only relate to the topic in an ancillary way.

For instance, akfarrar complains--and rightly so--that a discussion arose and continues to occupy space in the Two Gentlemen topic he started. Although it branched from his initial post, it has nothing to do with the play. Starting a new topic IN 2 gents seems to be the only option--but it doesn't belong there either.
Currently, the only 'general' category is 'Bits and Bobs' and I don't believe a major discussion belongs there either. If there had been a category for say philosophical viewpoints re: the works, or even general discussion topics I would have long-ago moved it there. The topic would be something on the order of "Shakespeare: Theatre vs. Academia" or Shakespeare: To Study or not to Study"--that's it, pretty much in a nutshell. Any suggestions? Thanks-Willshill

You are absolutely correct and a solution for this is already in the works. On the tail end of our complete site overhaul is the forum upgrade in the next few weeks. There will be a bunch of cool new features for users, better spam protection, ability to split off topics, more integration with the rest of the site, and tons more.

Thanks for your suggestion. Please be patient. This is a very technically-complex site and we'd rather give people something that works than something that half-works.

I agree. Let's have just a general forum where everyone can participate in a discussion.
