Charles, Dauphin of France, and later King, is King Henry’s rival claimant to the throne of France.
Following a string of victories, he has himself crowned King of France. He is greatly helped by the young lady Joan de Pucelle, who is a much better fighter than he is and with whom he is passionately in love. He is himself a bit of a coward, reneging on his word not to run away until he sees that he actually is in danger of death. He does not like taking responsibility and is quick to blame others. He is happily hypocritical when need be, swearing to a peace treaty he has no intention of keeping, and is a bit of a lightweight. Historically, he is the younger brother to the Dauphin of Henry V.
