Sir John Falstaff is a cowardly English knight who twice runs away from battle, leaving Talbot in grave difficulty, a fact that in one case leads to Talbot’s capture.
He freely admits to valuing his own life more than anything, and is publically disgraced by Talbot in retaliation. He is not the same as the Falstaff of the Henry IV plays or The Merry Wives of Windsor.
