Henry VI, Part 2 Characters

Lord Say is mistakenly believed by Cade’s rebels to be responsible for the losses in France, partly because he can speak French; he is also hated for heavy taxation.

He nobly refuses to follow the King to safety at Killingworth, so as to not attract the rebels against the King there. He is a well-educated man, a diplomat and judge rather than a warrior, none of which do him any favors when he is captured. Despite all his pleading, he is executed, and his head used as a trophy and battle-standard by Cade’s men.
