On December 5, 2008, we began converting the complete works of Shakespeare into XML and announced a call for volunteers to assist. Today, three months later, we are proud to announce that the conversion is complete.
These editions, known as the PlayShakespeare.com editions, are the cleaned-up versions of the plays on this site based on the following text sources:
The goal of these editions is to provide a clear, concise, error-free set Shakespeare's plays and poems free of charge to all. We will now begin rolling out the XML editions on this site in the coming weeks and in our Shakespeare iPhone application shortly.
Our next tall task is to convert the First Folio into XML with the goal of having a freely available original spelling version. It's a new project that's never been done before, but we feel it has great benefits. But we need your help to accomplish this.
