Prince Edward is King Edward’s eldest son and heir to his throne, the same as the baby of the final scene in Henry VI, Part Three.
He is a proud and intelligent child who intends to rule properly, and is suspicious of his uncle Richard. He loves his mother’s relatives and is quietly distraught at their execution. He gives every sign of growing into an excellent monarch, even intending to fight in France like another Henry V, but this is not to be. Disinherited and locked in the Tower by his uncle, he is smothered in his sleep along with his brother. His ghost returns to haunt Richard before the battle of Bosworth and to bless Richard’s opponent Richmond.
