Henry, Earl of Richmond is the grown-up Richmond of Henry VI, Part Three, Lord Stanley’s stepson and the next heir in blood of the Lancastrian cause.
He becomes the focal point of resistance to Richard, offering refuge to all those who flee England in fear as Richard’s regime takes over. A pious man, he rallies his troops in God’s name, offering himself as England’s salvation against tyranny and rekindling their anger by listing Richard’s wrongs. Pardoning all those who fought against him so long as they acknowledge his victory, he marries the daughter of King Edward and Queen Elizabeth as a way to join the two families of York and Lancaster in one and thus end the cause of the civil wars. It is possible that he has dressed several of his men as himself to keep himself safe in the battle of Bosworth. He kills Richard personally, and becomes King Henry VII.
