Patroclus is Achilles’s companion, a young man who is excellent at doing mocking impersonations of the Greek leaders.
He serves as Achilles’s doorkeeper along with being his inseparable friend. He is not the most warlike of men, and worries that Achilles may have decided to pull out of the war for his sake. There are indeed many rumors going about exactly what Patroclus’s relationship with Achilles is. He also has an odd relationship with Thersites, who risks replacing him as Achilles’s chief source of amusement. He is not the brightest of fellows. His death in battle will provoke Achilles into returning to the fight and to his greatest barbarities.
