Pirithous is Theseus’s dearest friend, and has a great deal of influence on him.
When Theseus decides to make war on Creon before marrying, Pirithous is charged with keeping the festivities going all the same before joining the Duke at the war. He is very fond of Emilia. His influence with Theseus is enough to get the latter to agree to release Arcite from prison. He is greatly impressed by strong, noble-looking men. He rushes to stop Palamon’s execution after he witnesses Arcite’s fatal accident.
